A cultural hub in a bunker: The historic bunker complex built in 1941 beneath Diakonissenplatz in Stuttgart’s west end has a fascinating history. After the war, it served as a hotel, hospice, warehouse, secret party venue, and rehearsal space for bands. Today, part of the over 3,000-square-meter underground bunker is a vibrant, young cultural center. The space combines industrial charm, raw concrete architecture, and the unique acoustics of a bunker with an open, experimental approach to culture. The spaces are intentionally designed to be easily accessible: not an elitist understanding of art, but a meeting place for everyone who wants to create or experience culture.
